Yucky Dishcloths
January 20, 2005 by Kristina
These “yucky” dishcloths were my first knitting projects. The pattern is from the book I Can’t Believe I am Knitting by Leisure Arts. The yarn is Red Heart Supersaver. I picked up the yarn and the book back in 2000 when I was pregnant with my son. I made half of the dishcloth on the right way back then. With the exception of a couple of small swatches to learn the process, this was literally the first thing I knit. I was bored out of my mind, and put it down - for about four years!
I picked up the yarn and the needles and the book again one night in January 2005 when my daughter was a few months old. It was late at night, she wasn’t sleeping well, and my husband was working. I pulled out my stuff, sat down in the hall outside her bedroom door, and retaught myself the basics. The wide red section in the middle of the dishcloth on the right is where I started that night. I finished that one and then moved on to the second dishcloth pattern (the one on the left). I got SO bored with it and ended it pretty quick (thus the odd shape).
Since these are dishcloths and I used acrylic yarn, I have never actually used them. I occassionally use them as potholders, but they don’t really work well for that, either. They are nice reminders of my early knitting ventures.
