FO: Penny Purses

Pattern: Penny Purse pattern available from HelloKnitty
Size: approx 4.5″ wide x 4″ high after felting
Yarn: Manos del Uraguay, color 113 (left) and color 111 (right) (100% wool), heavy worsted weight, 135 yards/100 grams per skein
Amount: scraps (leftover from baby hats)
Needles: Boye Needlemaster size 11 needles
Gauge: 3st/1 inch (before felting)
Started/finished: knit and felted September 17, 2006; lining - blue on September 27, green on October 14
Recipient: Blue lined - for a friend, green lined  - for me
Washing Instructions: hand wash and lay flat to dry

These little purses were extremely quick to knit, but a bit of a pain in the you-know-what to line.  If I make them again, I think that I will measure, cut and sew the lining before I sew in the zipper.  The lining would still have to be added after the zipper was installed, but it would be much easier to get the lining to fit right without the zipper getting in the way.

I could have knit these without a pattern, but at the time, my husband’s grandmother had just passed away.  He was at the wake (I was home with the kids in bed and couldn’t be there) and I couldn’t really focus on any of the projects I had been working on (You may have noticed that I finished a bunch of quick little projects towards the end of last month).  Anyway, I decided that these little purses were the perfect way to pass the evening, so I bought the pattern from Helloknitty.

These are cute little purses, perfect for tossing in a driver’s license, debit card, cash and some change.  Maybe even a lipstick and mascara, or whatever.  Or, you could just use it for knitting notions.
