Out with the old, in with the new
January 2, 2007 by Kristina
I have a few posts to catch up on, and hopefully I will get to them this week. The first is a post that I meant to do BEFORE the end of 2006. I kept putting it off, not quite knowing how I wanted to present it. At first, I was upset that this knitting project didn’t work out. I considered it to be a failure. After some time had passed, I no longer thought of it as a failure, and truthfully, the sting of it not working had really worn off. Then, I kind of forgot about it. This morning, I pulled it out, snapped a couple pictures, and without further adieu, here it is:
The Nordic Snowflake Pullover that will never be.
You can see in the shoulder area that it is a TAD (humph!) puffy. My daughter looks like a linebacker in it. I will admit, this is my fault. I didn’t like doing two-color knitting with Manos. The thick and thin parts seemed to always end up in the wrong places. I tried to fix this by making is looser or tighter where it seemed to need it. I think I over-compensated. It is almost entirely looser, as you can see.
The pattern is from the book Knitting For Baby. I have absolutely no intention of reknitting this sweater. I really didn’t enjoy it the first time around. And, the manos seems too bulky for her tiny frame. I plan to rip it out. If anyone is interested in the yarn, let me know. The cost of the yarn is the only thing that hurts. Although, I did get it discounted. I am completely okay with this sweater not working. It is my fault, I learned, and have moved on. I am still looking forward to trying a sweater using fair-isle technique (or whatever you call it), but just not this sweater, with this yarn. :)
Moving to Ariann, I am very excited to say that I am making real progress:
See? Isn’t it exciting? I can’t wait to finish!!
Happy New Year (a bit late)!! Hope you all celebrated safely, and had a great night.

happy new year to you and your family! :)
aw, that’s too bad that the sweater didn’t work out. I love the colors. I guess blocking it didn’t help even out the stitches at all? I can see where it would be a little too thick for your daughter. If you want to get rid of the yarn and no one here wants to buy/trade for it, consider listing it on the destash blog — maybe you can get something for it.
Your Ariann is SO close! It looks great! I can’t wait for you to finish it! :)
Happy New Year! That is such a big bummer about the snowflake sweater. Manos seemed like a strange choice for the design, which I do love. I am sorry it was a disaster though you are taking it in stride.
You are cruising on Ariann - looks so soft and warm.
You know, I think that sweater has potential! What did you think of the pattern, yarn recommendations aside?
I think that I might be interested in the yarn. How much do you have?
